Wwii Swiss Reuge-thorens Thuya Wood Music Box In 18th Cent. Drawng Room Video

  

This is one outstandingly beautiful wood veneer music box, since it is made of Thuya (pronounced two-ya) wood veneer from Morocco, Africa, and is dark & incredibly, brilliantly shiny--almost moist in appearance. It is unmarked, but the appearance is unmistakeable, & since this antique Thorens music box was made in the 1940's & possibly 1930's, the absence of a Thuya wood label is not at all unusual.

Look over all the photos to judge for yourself its awesome, superb wood veneer. Measuring 5" L x 4" W x 3+ Tall, and weighing 1 lb, this gorgeous box has dovetailed wood joints needing no nails to hold them, and when you open the lid to view the music box interior, you are struck also with the surprisingly beautiful contrasting colors inside, showing a light color wood inside lining against the darker wood sides & outside box--(see Photos #7 & 9).

The original Thorens song label is still on the bottom of the box, showing "In An 18th Century Drawing Room, " written by Mozart, and what is also fascinating about this music box label is its "provenance, " or history, which is also written on the label: Handwritten right there is part of its history: it is an actual love note with the place--Geneva, Switzerland, & the name of the giver--Whitey, & the date in history when it was given--Aug. 18, 1945--near the end of WWII! The song "In An 18th Century Drawing Room" by Mozart is superb, extremely melodious and has a great tone to its playing. This song is also quite rare to find in a music box, & truly adds to its desirability in a music box of quality.
