Vintage Thorens Automatic Disc Music Box AD30W Wood with 20 Discs Instructions
Jewelry: 1910 - 1939 Art Deco. Vintage Thorens Automatic Disc Music Box AD30W Wood with 20 Discs Instructions. For sale is a vintage Thorens AD30W Automatic Disc Music Box made in Switzerland with 20 discs for your musical enjoyment. This box is another example of great Thorens craftsmanship with a comb and cylinder and wind-up style mechanism inside a wooden box. What makes this different than your average Thorens is that it plays small metal discs to play different songs instead of a couple pre-made songs. The box latches shut and has a small spring-loaded holder that easily holds 6 discs.
The playing mechanism has a "stop and start" lever that is a little finnicky and probably needs to be cleaned. The wind up is inside and the mechanism is engraved with the Thorens logo and "Switzerland" and "Fabrication Suisse". The music box cranks and does work, but we are unsure of any tuning or service it may need to work in perfect condition.
Each disc is intact but we have not tested them all. The wood of the box is in great shape with some wear due to its age and some small specks of white paint from a previous owner. Comes with box, original instructions, and 20 discs.
