Vintage 1930s Black Forest Beech Wood Leaf Carved Musical Fruit Bowl Music Box

  

Plays two different tunes, the first is Emmenthaler Leid and second Burebuebli. Make your table centrepiece a musical masterpiece.

When wound and the fruit bowl lifted up, the first of two airs starts to play Upon raising once more, the second air, Strauss Vienna Waltz rings out within from the two-per-turn Cuendet movement with deep single-section comb on cast bedplate in the pedestal base of the classic and unmistakeable carved Black Forest fruit bowl case, with the top modelled as a large vine leaf, with the palm incised with the vanes, leaf hasp with eight berries and pierced branch detail to the edge, shaped cut leaf edge, on circular turned boss base containing the movement with course indent frieze and three feet, start/stop paddle and captive key-wind to underside with the period pasted operating label. High, (26.7 x 21.5 x 8.3cm). Mechanical music pieces which cast surprise by being hidden within inanimate objects have always been desirable.

Sweetmeat dishes, fruit bowls and other table accessories were made and most were put into immediate daily use. This example offered does not suffer from food juice staining or damage usually associated with these types of musical box and as such, will probably not be with us for too long. Surprise the family and your guests with music at the table, in true Swiss style. This piece belonged to my Grandmother. It has been kept in a glass fronted display cabinet out of direct sunlight for over 70 years.
