Wonderful antique Thorens music box in the shape of a baby grand piano. Made of beautiful walnut, the interior has storage space for jewellery and is lined with green silk. The lid is illustrated with the portrait of Chopin, but the box plays the Emperor Waltz by Strauss. The interior of the lid has the original label "Thorens "Val del Emperador.
Hermann Thorens starts a firm to make music box movements in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland in 1883. This box dates to c. 782 g 10.5 cm tall 16.5 cm wide 22 cm deep. Some light scuffing to wood commensurate with age; chip to the notes, one leg missing but this doesn't affect piano balance.
