A RARE (CIRCA 1825) KEY WIND CYLINDER MUSIC BOX, PLAYING 8 AIRS. WITH 3 EXPOSED CONTROLS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE, AND BEFORE THE GLASS DUST LID WAS INTRODUCED, THE MOVEMENT, ON A SOLID BRASS BEDPLATE IS HOUSED IN A VERY CLEAN, WORM FREE, PLAIN FRUITWOOD CASE WITH HOOK AND EYE LOCKS TO THE LID, AS WAS THE NORM IN THE EARLY DAYS.
IT IS THOUGHT TO BE PRODUCED BY DUCOMMUN GIROD OF GENEVA WHERE HE WORKED FROM 1815 TO 1862, THE AIRS HAVEING A TRILL ARRANGEMENT ON THE TREBLE END OF THE COMB, BUT THIS IS BY NO MEANS CERTAIN. AS EXPECTED WITH A RARE BOX SOME 195 YEARS OLD, THE PAPER TUNE CARD HAS BEEN DESTROYED, ONE OF THE AIRS IS A BIT WEAK BUT OVERALL IT PLAYS VERY WELL, WITH BRIGHT TUNEFUL ARRANGEMENTS, WITH A FULL SET OF TEETH AND DAMPERS IT COMES WITH IT'S ORIGINAL KEY.
NOT MANY OF THEASE RARE MUSIC BOX'S REMAIN IN PLAYING CONDITION. CASE MEASURES 16 1/2" X 5" X 4" WITH A 12" COMB. COLLECTION PREFERED FROM BS296JE OR DHL COURIER.
