A beautifully sounding Victorian c1860 - 1890 Music Box in what is believed to be Rosewood casing with hand painted marquetry detailing to the lid. Plays 6 Airs on the Brass cylinder. Origin is believed to be Swiss, maker unknown. No Tune card so unfortunately I cannot tell you the composers or tunes that are played but I can tell you that with a flick of the fly it will play beautifully and sounds absolutely stunning, no squeaking or missed notes. These beautiful music boxes are typical of their era having the brass cylinder as opposed to later music boxes that have the metal discs and these I feel play far superior to the metal discs and the sound is mesmerising, young and old, you cannot help but stop and listen if you hear them playing.
No replaced parts, all original. Marquetry to lid in tact.Lock visible and brass inlaid. The brass cylinder is in tact and plays beautifully.
One tooth on end of comb snapped off but does not hinder the performance in the slightest. The music box plays 6 airs (untested) by cranking the winder and pushing the start lever. Fly will need flicking to start but once playing will continue perfectly until winding again required. The Levers could do with some restoration as this works perfectly if you give the fly a flick but not on lever operation. A nice music box that only requires minimal restoration to have it back to its former glory. I've tried to be as honest I can In this description and have tirelessly researched everywhere to gain the knowledge about this piece. So please gauge condition from pictures supplied and by my writing as much as I can for you. It will need to be signed for.
