A fine early lever wind cylinder music box by Louis Jacques &son (circa 1860) who was based in Brassus in Switzerland, and exhibited in the Great Exhibition of 1851. The case of this fine instrument measures 20 1/2 x 6 3/4 x 5 1/2 and looks much the same as a key wind case in appearance, but has intricate inlay and stringing to the lid on which there is one small blemish (see photo). The eight very melodious airs are played superbly on the 13" cylinder which has been re-pinned and the comb has had dampers replaced as necessary then "set up by one of the UK, s top restorers.
