Fruit Bowl / Bon Bon Dish. 10.5 length (26.5cm).
Hand Carved, probably from Beech Wood, Pattern of Vine Leaves with Bunches of Grapes. Sits on a carved pedestal containing a Swiss Made Two Air Musical Clock work Movement (probably Reuge but not opened up to check). Dark patina with four feet and fine carving, including a frieze around the base. Has two original 1920s labels to the base, the first being the tradesman's label - Michel Fluhmann, Woodcarvings, Lucerne. The second being the two airs of music, handwritten in ink.
The bowl was designed to be a centrepiece containing fruits or bon bons, to be passed around the guests. With each lift away from the table one of the two musical airs will play, only to pause as the bowl is sat down again. Movement is governed by an activation shaft with a ball end. Please Note: The Bowl has not been polished or exposed to any modern cleaning agents.
It remains in its'as found' uncleaned state and the purchaser can make their own decision as to whether to leave "as is", or to restore the original rich patina. A wonderful collector's piece.
In generally very good antique condition. No Chips or Cracks and minimal markings. Some patina rub around the winder and light rub to a couple of rim edges.
