This is a beautiful antique French music box from the 1890s. It measures 6" x 4" x 2.5. It's made of Walnut wood, various bits of metal and veneer. At the moment it doesn't work.

I'm not a repairer but I think the spring has gone in the wind-up key. Looking at the mechanics when the box is opened (see photo) they appear to be in good order. I'm sure that anyone who knows about fixing music boxes will be able to repair this without much fuss at all. Just as it is, it makes a wonderful showpiece / centerpiece. Please read the description above. Sometimes it works sporadically - perhaps the spring has gone in the wind-up key? Aesthetically this box shows signs of age and wear as all great vintage items do.
