Antique Piano Form Sewing Necessiare. Here we have an interesting sewing ensemble made in France c. The piano's exterior is veneered with wood having a burled, or mottled appearance.

The keyboard is inlayed with lighter toned fruitwoods. Inside we can find a rectangular pincushion which rests above an open compartment used to store spools of thread and various other supplies. Also inside is a more or less triangular shaped tray which has cutout areas used to hold the various tools for the job at hand. This tray also lifts out to reveal another compartment housing the working music box, which plays when the lid is opened. The box retains it's original key and does lock properly.

The key for the music box, used to wind from the underside, is a replacement. A beautiful object for your collection or early 19th c.
