Beautiful Orpheus wood music box with Sankyo musical movement. 50 note with 3 Operatic songs including Carmen, Rigoletto, and La Traviatta. Intricate, crisp sound, plays perfectly. Measures 8.75" x 5.75" x 2.5 tall. The 50 Note Sankyo movement is made in Japan and is regarded as one of the best mechanical movements available today. The sound is rich, precise and never-the-less flawless. The cylinder musical movement was invented in 1796 and for the first time, people could listen to mechanically reproduced music in their own homes. Musical movements came long before the invention of the phonograph back in 1877.
